Should we begin profiling pasty-white caucasian Americans?

Well it looks like the people that we have to worry about most are not those that walk around with turbans. Nor are they people that are dark-skinned, and get on their shins to pray. They are, our very own, pasty-white, caucasian-Americans.

According to the Anchorage Daily News (ADN), the top militia-men and one woman, had amassed a large quantity of destructive weaponry “including grenades and .30- and .50-caliber machine guns, with which to carry out retaliatory strikes against law enforcement officials, according to court documents.”

With these weapons, the Alaska Peacekeeper’s Militia had planned to kidnap and/or kill state judges and state troopers.

Why would they do this? It was a retaliatory strike against the state for a gun charge against Francis Cox nearly a year ago.

According to the ADN, Cox never showed up for court, and  had been planning the attack for days prior to his court date. Allegedly, the FBI has a recording of Cox telling his militia members ”I know you’re ready to die, but you have to be ready to kill.”

Cox also instructed his militia members to react with violence if the authorities attempted to arrest him (Cox).

Cox had also devised a “241 plan” which meant that if the authorities arrested him, the militia was to kidnap two state workers, either judges or policemen, and if they killed him that they should kill those judges and/or policemen.

So, basically, shall the police and the CIA etc begin racially profiling white people just like they do to Middle-Eastern people in this country? This isn’t the first time a bunch of pasty-white caucasians attempted to terrorize the people of this great nation.

About a year ago, another group that called themselves the Hutaree, which is described by the NY Times to be a right-wing Christian militia, had planned to kill a police officer (name withheld), and then reign a fiery destruction at the funeral. The NY Times story is here.

So, since there are a bunch of crazy white people running around, guns in one hand and a bible in the other, that plan to kill police officers, judges, etc. shouldn’t we treat them in the same way that we treat dark-skinned Middle-Easterners? Should we send those pasty-white crazie to Abu Ghraib?

Or, better yet, we should begin racially profiling each and every single caucasian American that gets pulled over or attempts to go through an airport or gun show. Does this seem far-fetched? Of course it does. My point is that it is just as far fetched to profile dark-skinned Americans, due to the actions of a select few, as it is to do it to the pasty-white people for the same reason.

Religious and political fanatics come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, so we shouldn’t be afraid of the guy that runs our local convenient store or motel. No longer should we be in fear of those that look different than us. Now is the time to realize that we cannot be afraid of any one group because they can all become crazy. Instead, we should let local law enforcement and intelligence do what it is designed to do, which is root out those crazies, regardless of the color of their skin or where they are born.

$50 limits on all credit/debit card purchases?

Currently, banks are raking in nearly 16 billion dollars worth of transaction fees via the usage of credit/debit cards. This 16 billion dollars is paid to the banks by the stores that we make our purchases at. Currently, the rate is about 1.14% according to money.cnn.com.

The Federal Reserve has put forth a cap on those transaction fees; the cap is $.12 per transaction, regardless of the amount of the transaction. Banks are now saying that this will keep them from being able to cover the operational costs associated with the transactions.

In a sparring match with the Fed, the banks are now threatening their consumers with caps on transaction amounts. JP Morgan Chase is saying that $.12 per transaction under $50-$100 is sufficient to keep the operation going and will cap purchases at $50-$100.

While I understand there are costs associated with allowing transactions to take place, I also see 16 billion dollars as an extremely large number. These banks are making profits beyond our imagination via the transaction fees, and I find it hard to believe that $.12 will break them.

This is just another way that banks will stick it to their consumers. First they caused a global economic collapse by using their customers money for ignorant investments, and now they are going to make it harder for us to go about our daily lives as usual.

I’m not too worried about it though, because I still know how to write a check, and I can also head to my bank and withdrawal the money directly and just use cash. It’s not a huge deal, but it just goes to show who the banks actually care about, and it isn’t their customers.

Mother Nature takes its toll on Japan.

I’m sure by now most of us have heard about the 8.9 earthquake that rattled Japan, which triggered a 23 foot tsunami that flowed 6 miles inland, but what is now being reported is a potential nuclear meltdown.

The Associated Press has reported that the nuclear building has collapsed, and now stands as a steel frame, which is currently spewing smoke. They are also reporting that the cooling systems are down and a disaster is nearly imminent.

There are reports that every hour, the nuclear power plant is releasing the same amount of radiation that the average human is exposed to over the course of a year, and those numbers are expected to rise.

Japanese officials have evacuated everyone withing a six mile radius to minimize human casualties and losses.

Unfortunately, two power plants have lost their cooling ability, which prompted Japanese to declare a state of emergency at two others.

Earthquakes in Japan are business as usual, so the Japanese have constructed their buildings to withstand earthquakes, but what is unable to be constructed against, and what isn’t the norm for Japan, is the massive tsunami that swallowed 6 miles of Japanese mainland.

On another note, given the nation’s radioactive past, being the only nation to have nuclear weapons used against it, I truly feel sorry for the people of Japan now that they’re having to deal with a potential nuclear catastrophe.
