Bradley Klapper, writer for the Associated Press, has reported that the Obama Administration, and Congress, are weighing their options in regard to ending the violence in Libya.
Hillary Clinton, according to the article, stated that “‘significant financial commitment by the U.S.’ was crucial to help what he called a ‘monumental and uplifting transformation’ in the region.”
In a country facing a depression, I’m not sure that expending ‘borrowed’ money on someone else’s Civil War is the best financial decision. While I agree that something needs to be done, I do not believe we should be funding this by ourselves. We need to let the U.N. take care of this situation by a collective ‘Libya fund’ that spreads the financial burden among many countries. I think that we can afford to spend ‘something’ toward Libyan democracy, I’m not sure we should be going this alone.
I’m also very apprehensive about using our military to ‘take sides’ in the Libyan Civil War. Every time this country jumps in the middle of a Civil War, we end up getting stuck, and eventually losing.
On a humanitarian level, we should help, but from a standpoint of war, we should not. I say ‘no’ to military intervention and I also say ‘no’ to sheltering the financial burden.
