In an unprecedented act, Walker is doing two things in an attempt to force Democrats to come back to the Senate and cast their votes:
1.) Walker has threatened to begin laying off “1,500 state workers on Friday”, which is being reported by the Associated Press
This is an absolutely disgusting display of a dictator in the making. Scott Walker obviously doesn’t understand what the Democrats are actually doing. The minority has certain tools at its disposal to keep the majority from ramming through bills that go against constituents’ wishes. This is the reason why the filibuster will probably never be removed; it is a way for the minority voice to still be able to speak. The majority, for the most part, should respect this rule, just as they have respected the ‘filibuster tool,’ because they (the majority) realize that eventually they will become the minority and would require these tools in order to keep the majority from ramming things through.
Now, for Walker to threaten jobs to get the Democrats to come running back is absolutely disgusting. Scott Walker is, literally, using his constituents as pawns in his,
pardon my language, pissing match with the Democrats.
Walker is also contradicting himself, because, according to the AP, Walker stated that “he [Walker] is actively working with some of the Democrats in hopes of striking a deal.” Yet, the Associated Press then quotes Walker saying “‘I can’t take any of that off the table . . . We cannot tear apart this budget. We cannot put this burden on local governments.’ “
So Walker says he’s trying to ‘strike a deal’ and then states that he won’t “take any of that off the table,” so how can he do both? The answer to that questions is – he can’t. It is simply word vomit.
I also want to point out that he said “We cannot put this burden on local governments,” yet, just as I reported the other day, Walker is cutting nearly $1,000,000,000 from the education fund. That is a huge burden being passed down to the local governments, so the fact that he states he can’t put a burden “on local governments” means absolutely nothing.
Stay tuned for updates on the situation, and remember – I do the research so you don’t have to.
