The NASA insignia.

When this story first broke, I was excited about it and I liked it on my Facebook wall and posted it as well. But, like everything else that is great, someone has to come and try to ruin it for us.

NASA, along with other scientists have recently come out and said that it is all a hoax. What I find interesting is the fact that they bring up the finder’s credentials. Richard Hoover, in the initial story, was called Dr. Hoover, but according to this story, Hoover does not have a Ph.D. My concern here is – do they honestly believe that he has to have a Ph.D. in order to be able to see the fossil of a bacteria?

I’m going to assume that he has a Master’s Degree, but I haven’t looked very hard to confirm or deny this, so I will leave it at that. My point is , what’s wrong with having a Master’s, or even a Bachelor’s degree for that matter? Are they trying to make us think that one cannot discover these things without having a Ph.D.? Ludicrous.

*Steps up on soap box*

In my opinion, the other scientists are simply jealous and are looking to discredit Hoover’s findings – either on moral/ethical grounds, or because he doesn’t have his Ph.D. Either way, they are making Hoover out to be some kind of kook. I applaud Hoover for jumping out of the box and saying, hey look what I found and this is what I think it is.

*Steps off of soap box*

Well, we will just have to see what happens in the next five years. Maybe one of the other ‘scientists’ will come out and say “hey look, I found the ‘real’ fossils.”
